I say….

That was in a British accent, in case you couldn’t tell, because this involves the upcoming royal nuptials. And yes, it’s horse related!

Yearly Duties

I left work early yesterday for some horse business. The Axester needed new shoes (off with the snow shoes! YAY!) and her yearly spring shots. I love my vet: I asked her to check Axe’s teeth becuase she was long overdue for a float, and it was decided that she needed her teeth done. My vet grabbed her tools from the van and went at it. A tranq and a float only added $65 to the bill. The other “fancy” vet would have charged $40 for an oral exam, then $60 for the tranq and then another $90 for the float. And would say they’d have to come on another visit, so tack on another $72 for the second farm call. So Axe got her shots, her teeth done, and we had a long discussion about worming protocols AND ulcers, over an hour of the vet’s time, for under $300.

Plus it was obvious my vet loves working with horses. She was talking to Axe the way we do- in a funny voice, and just being relaxed and taking her time. Axe would tilt her head as the vet scrubbed the rasp over her teeth, like she was enjoying it! It was funny to watch.
