How to Follow Arena Etiquette While Horseback Riding - wikiHow
I find it amazing how so many long-time riders don't know or don't follow simple ring etiquette.

Happy Independence Day!
Even Axe got patriotic:
Sorry about the thumb.
My legs are past the point of hurting after i ride- now they just feel “exercised-exhausted”, like after a gym work-out. I still don’t have the confidence yet to canter though.

Yearly Duties
I left work early yesterday for some horse business. The Axester needed new shoes (off with the snow shoes! YAY!) and her yearly spring shots. I love my vet: I asked her to check Axe’s teeth becuase she was long overdue for a float, and it was decided that she needed her teeth done. My vet grabbed her tools from the van and went at it. A tranq and a float only added $65 to the bill. The other “fancy” vet would have charged $40 for an oral exam, then $60 for the tranq and then another $90 for the float. And would say they’d have to come on another visit, so tack on another $72 for the second farm call. So Axe got her shots, her teeth done, and we had a long discussion about worming protocols AND ulcers, over an hour of the vet’s time, for under $300.
Plus it was obvious my vet loves working with horses. She was talking to Axe the way we do- in a funny voice, and just being relaxed and taking her time. Axe would tilt her head as the vet scrubbed the rasp over her teeth, like she was enjoying it! It was funny to watch.

I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing…
if you think about it. Was it a waste to spend so much money when there are so many perfectly good, normal horses needing homes?

Allergic to Snow?
Axe's nose is 95% better. She has developed a slight cough- Em noticed it as she rode over the past few days (she stopped her riding for the day each time). I hand walked Axe last night, and about half-way thru, about 12 minutes, she sneezed/snorted/coughed 5 or 6 times, then was fine. I'm thinking she's trying to expel drainage from high up her nostrils? The snots look like just-standing-in-the-cold wet nostrils, no discharge to speak of.

Snotty-Nose Pony
Axe seems to have an allergy to something. She's had a viscous, snotty nose for a week. The vet came yesterday. All vitals were perfectly normal. The diagnosis is allergy. She's prescribed an anti-hystimine. We got new hay at the barn, which was my first question when I got the frantic text message "Ax is sick!". But she's been back on the old hay for a week, and her boogers are negligibly better. Does anyone know if horses can be allergic to birds? We have some very active sparrows in the barn right now. They nest in the hay bales in the loft, as well as perch above the horse's water & food buckets throughout the day.Axe gets the same snotty nose in the spring and I've guessed that it's an allergy to something growing in the pastures, but the sparrows are also similarly active that time of year as well. Any thoughts?
At the very least, the prescription should work its magic if it's an allergy.
